We are just over a month away from the start of a brand new\nuni year, and I\u2019m surely not the only one who can\u2019t believe how quickly it has\ncome around!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you are an excited yet nervous fresher, or a\nsoon-to-be dissertation swamped third year, there are a number of ways every\nstudent can prepare for the beginning of a fresh academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mental Preparation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This is perhaps one of the most crucial ways that you can\nget ready for the impending autumn semester. By now, you might have gotten a\nlittle too accustomed to that chilled summer feeling, and a little too out of\npractice with those 9am starts and all important time management skills. Although\nby all means make the most of your time off and relax, for your own benefit,\nyou may want to start sorting out your sleep schedule into a more, let\u2019s say,\nregular pattern. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I know for one that after the summer holidays, writing that\nfirst essay is an almost alien feeling. It\u2019s like I can barely remember how to\nstring a coherent and academic sounding sentence together! To tackle this, take\na look over some of your previous work and highlight where you strengths and\nweaknesses are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Start Sorting <\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It might be an idea to make a start on sorting out all the\nstuff you want to take to your uni accommodation. I find it useful to compile a\nchecklist of things \u2013 sectioning it into bedroom, kitchen, bathroom etc. so\nwhen it comes to moving in day I have everything I need!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get ahead of the\nReading<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Start as you mean to go on – it is never a bad thing to be\none step ahead of the game. Have a quick glance over a reading or two so you\nget a feel for the kind of content you will be exploring over the semester. As\na result, you will be able to make more sense out of your first few classes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stationary and\nTextbook check<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There is nothing worse than rolling up to the first lecture\nof the year and realising that you are completely under-equipped to make the\nmost out of it. Before you start, make sure you have a pencil case loaded with\nall the goods you need (including a pen or two that actually work!)\nAdditionally, check through your emails to make sure you have got all the\nnecessary textbooks that your lecturers have told you to purchase. If you\nhaven\u2019t already been told this though, don\u2019t stress \u2013 usually the first lecture\nof your modules will confirm whether you need to actually buy any books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Know your Modules<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Although you may not have your timetable yet, it is always a\ngood idea to remind yourself exactly what modules\/topic areas you will be\nstudying in the upcoming year. Have another glance through your module outlines\nand get aquatinted with some of the key readings. This way, when the term does\nstart, you will be the first one in the library to snag those limited copies of\nthe essential books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Get your finances\nin order<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At this point, you should have all your loans in place and\nknow how much money you will be receiving in your first loan drop.
