Colum place house is situated in between&nbsp;Talybont&nbsp;halls and the university campus meaning that you are close to the parties and also close to your lectures&nbsp;&#8211; oh and don\u2019t forget Fattoush take&nbsp;away, you will have more than these than you can even imagine.&nbsp;To find out more about what it was like to live in a&nbsp;house&nbsp;in&nbsp;first year, I spoke to Tamara.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What was your\u202ffavourite\u202fthing about Colum place?\u202f<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My favourite thing about Colum Place was the privacy that comes with living in a terraced house,\u202fas\u202fit was a quiet cul-de-sac, there were rarely any noise complaints that can sometimes come with living in an accommodation block. I never had any\u202fproblems\u202fgetting work done\u202fdue to noise or disruption which was what I had wanted.\u202f<\/strong><strong><em>\u202f<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>\u202fWhat was something you wish you had been told before you moved in?\u202f\u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u202f<strong>That they were single beds!\u202fAll the rooms were large enough to fit a double bed,\u202fbut I understand that would have been unfair\u202fas people pay more to have a double room\u202ffrom the\u202faccommodation\u202fchoices\u202ffrom what I remember.\u202fAnother point was that I wasn\u2019t expecting the other students in the house to be my age or slightly older, maybe Cardiff\u202fAccommodation\u202fdoes that on purpose\u202fbut it worked out great for me! as all the\u202fother housemates were around the same age as me I\u202fnever had to worry\u202fabout messy kitchens or that kind of thing that sometimes comes with people who have never lived on their own before.\u202f<\/strong><strong><em>\u202f<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>If you could pick accommodation again, where would you pick (not to be with friends, but singularly about the accommodation)?\u202f\u202f<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I was\u202fhappy\u202fwith Colum Place because I was slightly older and\u202fhad been to university prior, the\u202fsocialising\u202faspect of\u202fliving in an accommodation block wasn\u2019t a priority for me personally. Although accommodation blocks like at\u202fTaly\u202fare great for making friends when you first come to university.\u202fI\u202fdid end up\u202fmaking\u202fa lot of friends which lived in\u202fTaly\u202fso it was great I could\u202fjust walk 10 minutes to go see them for social events but know I\u202fcould come home\u202fto my quiet house\/street in the evening.\u202f<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Which shop did you mainly use?\u202f\u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The petrol station shop on North Road if it was just one thing I needed, otherwise the LIDL or the Tesco Express further up.\u202f<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>How did you\u202fsocialise\u202fwithin the accommodation?\u202f\u202f<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>I would\u202fsocialise\u202fwith my\u202fflat mates\u202faround dinner or occasionally going to the pub but I was closer to the friends I had made\u202fwhich lived\u202fin\u202fTaly\u202fso I would usually go see them or go somewhere in town with\u202fthem.\u202f<\/strong>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>What were three key points about\u202fthe\u202fhouse?<\/em>\u202f&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>\u202fQuiet, great location and I liked that the people I\u202flived\u202fwith were slightly older than the average age in student accommodation.\u202f\u202f\u202fThe amenities were fine, good location very close to my business buildings where I had\u202fmany my lectures. The\u202f<\/strong><strong>Maindy<\/strong><strong>\u202fCentre was 15minutes from me and shops were around the same.\u202f\u202f<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"If you don\u2019t like the look of any of the halls of residences, there is always university owned houses!
