{"id":10554,"date":"2020-02-27T16:23:40","date_gmt":"2020-02-27T16:23:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/insiders\/?p=10554"},"modified":"2020-11-24T11:39:46","modified_gmt":"2020-11-24T11:39:46","slug":"lgbtq-pride-in-cardiff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/insiders\/lgbtq-pride-in-cardiff\/","title":{"rendered":"LGBTQ+ Pride in Cardiff"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is February, which means it is also LGBTQ+ history month\n\u2013 a time to celebrate the community and draw attention to pressing issues that\ncontinue to affect many individuals across the U.K. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The university is committed to championing its LGBT students\nand are highly regarded by Stonewall as one of the most LGBTQ+ inclusive universities\nin the UK. Playing everything from Ru Paul to Beyonc\u00e9, Drag\nQueens are often spotted paying visits to the club which also serves very cheap\ndrinks. If you are looking for your\ncocktail fix, this is also the place to get it. Cocktails are 2-for-1 Sunday to\nThursday, costing just \u00a35.50 each, or \u00a310 for a pitcher. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>WOW Bar<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often attracting the young, student crowd, this bar operates\nas a caf\u00e9 by day, but hosts Cabaret by night. WOW bar has recently moved locations,\nmeaning it is now the closest LGBT bar to the student area of Cathays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Minsky\u2019s Showbar&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Minsky\u2019s specialises in Drag Queen\nand Cabaret entertainment and is a firm favourite with stag and hen do\u2019s. If you\u2019re\nlooking for a care-free night of fun then head over on a Friday or Saturday\nnight and you won\u2019t be disappointed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/insiders\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/523\/2020\/02\/2624bd2629f2442a94cb51465a2c0c95.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-10557\" width=\"442\" height=\"309\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Mary\u2019s <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Located on St Mary\u2019s Street, this bar well-known for its\ndrag shows, themed events and karaoke nights. In 2019, Pride attracted over 50,000 people to the Welsh capital in\norder to raise awareness of LGBTQ+ issues and advocate equality and diversity\nthroughout the community.
