5 Tips to Stay Motivated
With the end of semester being so near, keeping ourselves motivated can be quite the challenge. Here are 5 tips to keep you going!
Establish Your Why
Having a motive or an end goal really helps when it comes to studying. Think about why you’re doing what you’re doing, where it’s going to get you, and establish your why.
In order to achieve your end goal, you’re going to need to put the work in, so use your why as your motivation to get studying.
Establishing a routine is one of the most important things you can do to keep yourself motivated. It can be easy to slip out of, especially during the current circumstances, but try to reinforce it as much as possible.
Wake up, eat breakfast, wash and go for a walk! It’ll help kick start your day, give you a fresh state of mind and motivate you to sit down and get work done. We all work best at a specific time of the day, so factor that into your routine. If you study best in the morning, there’s no point staying up into the early hours of the morning and waking up in the afternoon.
To Do Lists
At the start of each day, or even the night before, write down a realistic to do list. Plot down each task that you’d like to complete, and how long you’d ideally like to spend on it.
This will allow you to have structure to your days and prevent you from wasting your time figuring out what to work on. Put the tasks in order of importance and start with the hardest ones first. This ensures that you aren’t avoiding any tasks that are slightly more difficult. It’ll also keep you motivated as you can visually see what else you have left to do for the day.
Rewarding yourself is a great way to stay motivated. We can all easily sit down on our phones and scroll through Tik Tok for hours, or endlessly watch Netflix. Sometimes we need to take a step back, put our phones down and get on with our studies.
For every hour of studying you complete, take a 15-minute break and spend that doing something you love and use that as your reward. Knowing that you have something to look forward to at the end of each hour of work will help motivate you to carry on and get it done!
Don’t Force It
Everybody has those days where they just want to sit back, relax and do their own thing. If you really are struggling to sit down and study, and just aren’t feeling it, then do what you can and leave the rest until tomorrow.
Putting yourself first and taking time for yourself is important for your mental health. This will allow you to restart the next day feeling reenergised and ready to tackle whatever you need to get done.
