Coastal 2 – Hearing dates
9 May 2025Forgive the extra break in the blog from last week (on vacation). The big news is that the hearing dates in what this blog has called Coastal 2 (the fallout from Coastal 1, in which effectively tenants were found not to be required to pay the rent as it was not lawfully due, their properties being deemed by law to be unfit for human habitation) is listed for hearing in Cardiff County Court on August 20-22. This is bound to be a whopper of a judgment and of massive significance to RSLs (more so than Coastal 1) who are faced with the worst case scenario/possibility of having to repay the monies paid over to them as rent during the period when it was not lawfully due. There is £46+ million at stake here just for the parties involved in Coastal 1 (which means it will almost certainly go to appeal) and, if it goes against them, there will be massive consequences for RSLs, and the WG will have to make some unpalatable decisions. More as I hear it anyway …
