Sustainability Week 2022 – HogBuzz event
16 March 2022HogBuzz: Engaging staff and students with the Hedgehog Friendly Campus campaign at Cardiff University
Join us at any time on Monday, 21st March, from 10am to 5pm, for a biodiversity-friendly day in the University’s Main Campus.
With the #HogBuzz project we aim to increase awareness and create a buzz among the Cardiff University community (staff, students, and their families) towards the Hedgehog Friendly Campus campaign. The campaign aims to inspire our staff and students to work together to transform the university green areas into havens for hedgehogs and other wildlife, while also encouraging all to implement the same actions at home.
In the morning (10am-1pm), we will host a wildflower planting session, where you will be able to sow wildflower seeds for the School of Biosciences’ wildflower meadow and take a few seeds to start your own at home. You can also help build a green roof for our bug hotel and place a small pond and two bee bricks (for solitary bees) in our wildlife corner.
In the afternoon (2pm-5pm), we will deliver a training session on how to set up footprint tunnels to detect and monitor hedgehog presence/activity, and place these in preparation for a 5-day survey. You can volunteer to check the tunnels in the following days and hopefully get rewarded with lovely hedgehog footprints!
Please spread the word! And hope to see as many of you there.
