Research Statistics and Evidence Based Practice Stand-alone Module

2 January 2014

Some of you might be interested to know that the department runs a number of courses to develop your knowledge in research. As well as the practical, short 1 and 2 day intra-department courses Introduction to Research, Introduction to Statistics (SPSS) level 1 & 2, we are also a department within The School of Medicine at Cardiff University, a member of the Russell Group of Universities.

We are pioneers of Master level stand-alone modules within The School of Medicine and one of these modules is Research, Statistics and Evidence Based Practice. This e-learning module is appropriate for all healthcare professionals and its delivery offers flexibility in studying and learning over a 12 week period. Content comprises of on demand lectures, podcasts and interactive material, with the use of discussion boards and online assessments to provide student support.

The module provides an in-depth understanding of statistics and statistical analysis and relates much more to the why rather than the how of research statistical analysis. Whilst our 1 and 2 day short courses provide opportunities to use statistical software to analyse data from studies, successful completion of this module is awarded 10 credits at Masters level and is ideal for anyone wanting to undertake research or who is thinking of undertaking an MSc (the 10 credits may be submitted for Accreditation of Prior experiential Learning [APeL]).
