Phoenix Project

Meet our Phoenix Educational Development Mentors over tea and homemade cake!

25 February 2015

Screen shot 2015-02-24 at 12.26.37 With the new Academic Year starting in UNAM, the launch of their new logo, and the final validation adjustments for their new Advanced Diploma in Higher Education (ADHE) going through, it is time for us to meet and start working with our Phoenix Mentor volunteers . So far 18 people from across Cardiff University have volunteered to become Educational mentors for the mentors of UNAM’s ADHE participants as they pilot their new course. This is an exciting opportunity to use our educational development experiences and learn with and from each other here in Cardiff and UNAM about how to enhance our students’ learning experiences. Screen shot 2015-02-24 at 12.18.23 So far we have had two workshops sharing experiences about Namibia and UNAM. What a wealth of experience and expertise our CU colleagues have: people have travelled to Namibia, others studied aspects about the country for their degrees, yet others fascinated by their languages and music. The genuine warmth people feel towards Namibia and the enthusiasm to become involved in the mentoring-the-mentors project is palpable! Screen shot 2015-02-24 at 12.18.52 Everyone is busy reflecting on what they can share with the rest of the mentoring group and then we will set up electronic ‘show and sells’, micro-mentoring and other face-to-face / online activities that will help us get to know each other. As an energetic and creative team we will practise the skills that cross-globe mentoring might require. We hope to be ready to respond when UNAM’s ADHE is ready to roll. Screen shot 2015-02-24 at 12.18.59 We will keep you updated on how we are doing – but if you would like to get involved please email me: I can’t promise homemade cake every time we meet (I wonder what the virtual equivalent is?) but I can promise stimulating, challenging but enjoyable educational discussions – I think we have already learnt so much from each other – the breadth of interests and talent is awesome! Thank you everyone for starting this off so positively – looking forward to seeing where this project will take us! … and thank you Vince for taking the photos!
