International Health and Leadership for Medical Students

24 March 2014

The Module in International Health, part of the MSc Intercalated Degree in Public Health has been running for the first time this academic year.  Student feedback has been excellent and course leaders Tei Sheraton, Alison Fiander and Ann Allen are to be congratulated.  I am certain the students have learnt a lot in working with people of such experience.

The last session fell to me to organise and this seemed an excellent opportunity to introduce something different.  I asked Mark Hodder from Academi Wales to provide a session on Adaptive Leadership, placing it in the context of  International Health.  Mark’s background is in Leadership, the military and International Development. As well as course tutors, I introduced trainee anaesthetists and even an engineer into the the mix, thus adding depth and breadth of knowledge for the students.  Essentially though the students solved problems, producing solutions for themselves.  A fun and educational afternoon, and the photos below (by Mike Taylor in Media Resources) speak for themselves.

A special thank you then to Mark Hodder of Academi Wales for delivering this for students of the School of Medicine, Cardiff University.  I feel certain I’ll be asking you back!
