Cardiff Women in Science Seminar25 February 2014
This Wednesday the Cardiff Women in Science Network (@CWIS_Network) is running a seminar and networking event on Interdisciplinary Research. The focus of the talks will be on the practicalities of getting projects off the ground, finding the right research partners, communicating across scientific boundaries and maintaining momentum for projects. Several short presentations from researchers will be followed by a panel discussion.
The event is designed to bring together people working in science across all disciplines, and to highlight successful cross-school and cross-college research projects driven by female scientists. It is hoped this will both inspire more interdisciplinary research and provide useful information on how to get projects going. The networking session will promote the formation of new partnerships, and attendees will have an opportunity to flag opportunities for collaboration in their own research. Speakers include Drs Cathy Holt (ENGIN), Deborah Mason (BIOSCI) and Kate Walker (EARTH): a stellar cast of achievers. Introductions are by my great friend and collaborator Dr Alison Paul (CHEMI) (now there’s a woman with great finishing skills). I’m speaking too, though my presentation may be a little alternative. Come along, get involved, science isn’t all about blokes in white coats.
Microfossils and Antarctica: what interesting stuff, go to the Podcasts on their blog, including Jenny Pike’s http://sites.cardiff.ac.uk/cwis/
