An illustrated life: our work is our patients
9 April 2014Have you been down into the bowels of University Hospital of Wales recently? By that I mean, have you worked in our Short Stay Surgical Unit? If you have, you may have noticed a new, young and enthusiastic phenomenon: the Illustration Student!
In an effort to look at things differently, the academic Department of Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine has embarked on a joint project with Cardiff School of Art and Design (CSAD) and (with all the necessary permissions and contracts) invited undergraduate illustration students to look at us, work with our patients and tell us what they see. The students are interested in patient experiences and pathways and how our teams work. This project has been put together by myself, the very capable Gemma Keightley and Chris Glynn of CSAD, do contact us for more information. Naturally, all work is by consent and you may be invited to sign a form. If you don’t want to be drawn, that’s perfectly fine.
The students have already been with us for three days, produced some lovely, reflective work and been very impressed by your friendship and support. I very much intend to display their work, invite you to an exhibition opening and thank you with a glass of bubbly.
