Advice from Class of 2013
8 July 2014Unsure of how to prepare for graduation? Don’t worry! Some of last year’s graduates, who have ‘been there, done that’, have offered their advice on how to prepare for the big day:
Sam Hurley, who graduated with a 2:1 in Business Management (Marketing), says:
“Ensure the day flows smoothly and leave enough time to pick up your cap and gown and tickets from City Hall before proceeding to St David’s Hall.”
Sophie Howe, who graduated with a 2:1 in Education, says:
“My biggest piece of advice would be to get there early and have your professional photo done before the ceremony. Also, bring safety pins for the robe!”
Jessica Thorne, who graduated with a First in Biochemistry, says:
“Make sure you wear comfy and reliable shoes – graduation day is filled with walking around Cardiff and you don’t want to end up with blisters.”
Yazmin Salt, who graduated with a 2:1 in Business Management, says:
“I know it sounds stupid make sure you wear practical underwear! You will be in the same outfit for the majority of the day, so you want to be as comfortable as possible.”
Will McGarrigle, who graduated with a 2:1 in Politics, says:
“Be super organised and plan everything in advance, from reserving restaurants (especially if you’re with a large group of people) to booking hotels! It will save you so much stress on the day!”
Susannah Bacon, who graduated with a 2:1 in Geography, says:
“Last year’s graduation week was surprisingly hot, especially under our robes. Make sure you have plenty of water on hand throughout the day so that you don’t get dehydrated.”
