Tell us about your global opportunity\u2014where did you go, and what did you do?
\n<\/strong>I took part in a programme with Travelteer, in Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka. I split my time between English teaching in local schools and marine and wildlife conservation projects, including river clean ups, and maintaining turtle conservation habitats. It was a great balance of hands-on physical work and supporting education of local children.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

What surprised you the most about your host country\/programme\/time abroad?<\/strong>
\nI was touched by how grateful the children were. Although they had very little, they always managed to smile. The local communities were so welcoming and generous. Despite cultural differences, people were always eager to share their traditions, food, and stories. I learned so much outside of the programme from just small day-to-day interactions.<\/p>\n

What is the one thing you miss about your time abroad?<\/strong>
\nI miss the sense of community. And most of all, I miss the slower and more connected way of life. I miss the feeling of being part of something bigger, and the feeling of making a difference. I\u2019ll also miss the smoothie chia puddings from Sunny Side Up!!<\/p>\n

What\u2019s something you\u2019re passionate about outside of your studies?
\n<\/strong>I love travelling, that\u2019s where any spare money goes. I enjoy finding the best coffee spots in every new city, or the best hidden cocktail bars.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s your favourite place on campus\/in Cardiff?<\/strong>
\nBl\u0175n in Cathays does the best coffee!!<\/p>\n

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year (a dream destination), where would it be\u2014and why?<\/strong>
\nJapan! I love the cuisine and I want to explore the mix of futuristic cities and ancient traditions.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s a fun fact most people don\u2019t know about you?<\/strong>
\nI almost always book my next holiday on the last day of my current one<\/p>\n

Describe your global experience in three words:<\/strong>
\ninspiring, fun and different<\/p>\n

What advice would you give to students considering a global opportunity?<\/strong>
\nAlways, always, always look up things to do in advance for your time off, it makes the volunteering days fly by when you\u2019re excited for what you have planned on your days off!!
