J\u2019esp\u00e8re que vous avez pass\u00e9 des bons examens et je vous souhaite des bonnes chances pour vos r\u00e9sultats\u00a0!\u00a0Alors, le th\u00e8me de ce blog et la France entre 1940-1950. J\u2019imagine que vous savez d\u00e9j\u00e0 que pendant la Deuxi\u00e8me Guerre Mondiale la France \u00e9tait occup\u00e9e par l\u2019Allemagne, entre 1940-1944.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After the \u2018Fall of France\u2019 in 1940, the Germans set up the <em>zone occup\u00e9e<\/em>, consisting of northern and western France. In the <em>zone libre<\/em>, there remained a French government, known as the Vichy government. This regime is known as <em>le regime de Vichy<\/em> after the town in which the French parliament met on the 9<sup>th<\/sup> and 10<sup>th<\/sup> July 1940 to discuss the future of France. The Vichy government was headed by <em>le mar\u00e9chal<\/em> Philippe P\u00e9tain.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 320px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/3\/3c\/FranceOccupee.jpg\/320px-FranceOccupee.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/thumb\/3\/3c\/FranceOccupee.jpg\/320px-FranceOccupee.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"320\" height=\"912\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Une carte montrant la zone occup\u00e9e par l&#8217;Allemagne en rose et par l&#8217;Italie en vert, et la zone libre<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>France was split into two zones, <em>la zone occuppee et la zone libre<\/em>, with the signing of the Franco-German Armistice (<em>Armistice du 22 juin 1940<\/em>). In theory this granted the French Vichy government sovereignty over the <em>zone libre<\/em>. As you can imagine however, this was not the case in practice, as the Vichy regime relied on the Germans economically. So, the first few months of the Vichy regime were characterised by a period of close collaboration with Nazi Germany. However, collaboration with the Nazis was deemed impractical by the Vichy government, so P\u00e9tain then presided over a period of <em>attentisme<\/em>, which was basically to \u2018wait and see\u2019 how the War played out.<\/p>\n<p>In general, the Vichy regime was an authoritarian regime \u2013 they even changed the French motto from \u2018<em>Libert\u00e9, Egalit\u00e9, Fraternit\u00e9<\/em>\u2019 to \u2018<em>Travail, Famille, Patrie<\/em>\u2019!\u00a0It was also marked by anti-Semitic and anti-Bolshevik views and policies and remains a controversial point in France\u2019s history. All subsequent French governments refuse to recognise the Vichy regime as legitimate and claim it was an illegal government formed by \u2018tra\u00eetres\u2019. <em>Le Marechal P\u00e9tain<\/em> was even tried and convicted of <em>trahison<\/em> (treason) after the liberation of France and was originally sentenced to death. However, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment by Charles de Gaulle due to his military achievements.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 258px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ajpn.org\/images-comms\/1281172636_nantes.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ajpn.org\/images-comms\/1281172636_nantes.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"258\" height=\"349\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Panneaux indicateurs allemands \u00e0 Nantes<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><em>L\u2019occupation de la France et le r\u00e9gime de Vichy est une p\u00e9riode d\u2019histoire qui est rarement discut\u00e9 parce qu\u2019elle est vue comme une p\u00e9riode de collaboration et trahison.
