Esta entrada es mi \u00faltima de mi a\u00f1o Erasmus y se trata de las ferias nacionales espa\u00f1olas y las zonas locales de inter\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p><em>La fiesta nacional de Espa<\/em><em>\u00f1<\/em><em>a <\/em>is the national day of Spain. It is held every year on October 12th and is celebrated around the country. It is a celebration of the anniversary of Christopher Columbus\u2019 first arrival in America in 1492. Americans also celebrate the festival, calling it <em>Columbus Day<\/em>, whilst many Latin American countries call it <em>el D<\/em><em>\u00ed<\/em><em>a de la Raza. <\/em>Sin embargo hoy en d\u00eda la celebraci\u00f3n es muy pol\u00e9mica porque cr\u00edticos afirman que la llegada de Cristobal Col\u00f3n en las Am\u00e9ricas inici\u00f3 la persecuci\u00f3n de la gente \u00edndigena del continente.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3443\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/12-octubre-barcelona-450x242.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/12-octubre-barcelona-450x242.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/12-octubre-barcelona.jpg 680w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>La Pascua es una fiesta muy importante en la sociedad y cultura espa\u00f1ola debido a las ra\u00edces cat\u00f3licas del pa\u00eds. It is called <em>la Semana Santa <\/em>and is celebrated in numerous ways in each <em>comunidad aut<\/em><em>\u00f3<\/em><em>noma<\/em>. While the Semana Santa festivities in Andalucia are considered the most spectacular, the ones in Castila y Le\u00f3n are often regarded as some of the most authentic, solemn, and austere in the entire country. Among the cities that hold remarkable processions are Le\u00f3n, Zamora, \u00c1vila, Segovia, Valladolid and in the city where I work, Salamanca. Around 22 dramatic processions of <em>pasos<\/em> accompanied by ancient wooden sculptures of Jesus Christ and Virgin Mary in grief, along with hundreds of penitents carrying flags, crosses, or candles make<em> la Semana Santa<\/em> in Salamanca one of the most important celebrations of its kind in Castilla y Le\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3444\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/1200px-Salamanca_-_26-450x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"338\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/1200px-Salamanca_-_26-450x338.jpg 450w, https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/1200px-Salamanca_-_26-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/1200px-Salamanca_-_26-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/281\/2018\/07\/1200px-Salamanca_-_26.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>La Nochebuena<\/em> (Christmas Eve) es celebrada por toda la fam\u00edlia y se suelen comer platos grandes de comida rica. Unos platos populares son turr\u00f3n (nougat), polvorones (Spanish almond cookies), cordero asado (roasted lamb), y mariscos (seafood). At midnight, people usually exchange small gifts, while the most religious of them commemorate the birth of Jesus by attending the Midnight Mass. This is locally known as <em>Misa del Gallo<\/em> (the Rooster Mass) due to the common belief that the rooster was the first to announce the birth of Christ.<br \/>\nNo obstante durante el D\u00eda de Navidad la mayor\u00eda de fam\u00edlias espa\u00f1olas pasan el d\u00eda sin hacer mucho. Sin duda el D\u00eda de Navidad es m\u00e1s comercializado en el Reino Unido de que Espa\u00f1a.<br \/>\n<em>El Gordo <\/em>(the Fat One), the world-famous Spanish lottery draw, is certainly a sign that Christmas has arrived in Spain. Also known as <em>la Loteria de Navidad<\/em>, this is a major Christmas event in Spain, organized each year since 1812.
