Alors, pour mieux comprendre le monde francophone je vais vous parler un peu du patrimoine de la r\u00e9gion dans laquelle je reste \u00ab\u00a0Pays de la Loire\u00a0\u00bb. Puis, je vous parlerai de la litt\u00e9rature, et l’art fran\u00e7ais. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Le patrimoine<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

La ville de Nantes \u00e9tait traditionnellement une partie de Bretagne, mais depuis 1956 elle est la pr\u00e9fecture de r\u00e9gion Pays de la Loire. La d\u00e9cision de rendre Nantes dans une autre r\u00e9gion reste controvers\u00e9e jusqu\u2019\u00e0 ce jour. Cela dit, on peut trouver des traces de son histoire bretonne aujourd\u2019hui.<\/em><\/p>\n

Dans le centre-ville du Nantes il y a le Ch\u00e2teau des Ducs de Bretagne, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit originalement en 1207 et reconstruire en 1466. Comme son nom sugg\u00e8re le ch\u00e2teau \u00e9tait la r\u00e9sidence des Ducs de Bretagne entre le 13e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle et le 16e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, ensuite la r\u00e9sidence bretonne de la monarchie. De nos jours le ch\u00e2teau contient le mus\u00e9e d\u2019histoire de Nantes.<\/em><\/p>\n

Nantes established itself as one of the major ports in France during the 17th century. As a result it was one of the main French ports involved in the slave trade (le commerce des<\/em> esclaves<\/em>),\u00a0being responsible for over 40% of the French slave trade. In 2012 the city of Nantes installed l<\/em>e\u00a0M\u00e9morial de l’abolition de l’esclavage<\/em>. The memorial consists of an underground tunnel with glass panels displaying the history of the Nantes slave trade, and quotes. There are also 1,710 panels laid along the promenade, each one displaying the name of a slave ship that voyaged to and from Nantes.<\/p>\n

La litt\u00e9rature<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Nantes was the birthplace of famed French language author Jules Verne. He is the most translated French language author and is probably best known for writing \u2018Around the World in Eighty Days\u2019 (Le Tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours<\/em>), \u2018Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea\u2019 (Vingt mille lieues sous les mers<\/em>) and \u2018Journey to the Centre of the Earth\u2019 (Voyage au centre de la Terre<\/em>).\u00a0There is even le mus<\/em>\u00e9e Jules-Verne <\/em>here in Nantes containing artefacts and memorabilia inspired by his works.<\/p>\n

L’art\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Sur l\u2019<\/em>\u00ee<\/em>le de Nantes vous trouverez un \u00e9l\u00e9phant m\u00e9canique. Oui, je ne plaisante pas\u00a0! L\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9phant fait partie des Machines de l\u2019<\/em>\u00ee<\/em>le, ouverts en 2007 dans le vieux chantier naval. L\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9phant fait des circuits du chantier naval et vous pouvez acheter des tickets pour le monter. Il p\u00e8se pr\u00e8s de 50 tonnes et il mesure 12m de haut, 8m de large et 21m de long.\u00a0L\u2019\u00e9l\u00e9phant aussi pulv\u00e9rise les passants avec de l\u2019eau (quand le temps la permet\u00a0!).<\/em><\/p>\n

Another\u00a0of the\u00a0Machines de l\u2019\u00eele<\/em>\u00a0attractions\u00a0<\/em>is le carrousel des mondes marins,\u00a0<\/em>a multilayered carousel. There are 3 levels, each depicting a different level of the sea; les fonds marins<\/em>\u00a0(the seabeds), les abysses<\/em>\u00a0(the abyss) et la surface de la mer\u00a0<\/em>(the sea surface). The carousel animals vary from level to level, from une<\/em>\u00a0pieuvre\u00a0<\/em>(squid) to\u00a0une raie manta\u00a0<\/em>(a manta ray) to\u00a0une m\u00e9duse\u00a0<\/em>(a jellyfish).<\/p>\n
