Espa\u00f1oles se encantan bailar<\/em><\/p>\n

As a result of this among many other things, music is of great importance in Spain. It is a country rich in musical history and culture and favours a wide variety of different music styles which vary from region to region. The region in which I currently reside (Andaluc\u00eda), is the birthplace of Flamenco; a style of music which still enriches the region to this day.\u00a0 A passionate and emotional dance, many Spaniards learn the \u00b4Sevillanas\u00b4 for the various \u00b4ferias\u00b4 in April and May and dance it to Flamenco music.<\/p>\n

La historia del flamenco no es totalmente claro. Solo sabemos informaci\u00f3n sobre los \u00faltimos 200 a\u00f1os del arte. Es un hecho que en el pasado, la \u00b4m\u00fasica\u00b4 para flamenco era una combinaci\u00f3n de una voz, y un palo pegando la tierra.<\/em><\/p>\n

These musical combinations are referred to as \u00b4palo secos\u00b4<\/em>, and old song styles include \u00b4to\u00f1as\u00b4<\/em>, and \u00b4martinetes\u00b4<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Mucha gente cree que flamenco fue inventado de gitanos, cuando llegaron en Andaluc\u00eda desde India en 1425. Este a\u00f1o era muy cerca de la expulsi\u00f3n de las musulmanes desde Espa\u00f1a y el subsiguiente conversi\u00f3n nacional a la Cristiandad. Despu\u00e9s de eso, eran muchos castigos para los jud\u00edos y las otras minoridades, como los gitanos. Expresi\u00f3n cultural (con la excepci\u00f3n de la de los cristianos y los Espa\u00f1oles generales), fue ilegal. De hecho, los gitanos experimentaban algas de las atrocidades peores, con la intenci\u00f3n de exterminar todos los gitanos. Ahora mismo hay dos tipos de canciones del flamenco: Cante Gitano <\/em>(gypsy song) y Cante Andaluz<\/em> (Andaluc\u00eda song).<\/em><\/p>\n

As a result of this national front against minorities, many Jews, gypsies and moors grouped together in what would probably be seen in the modern day as \u00b4ghettos\u00b4, where their cultures combined and the flamenco we still know today was born. It wasn\u00b4t until the eighteenth century that attitudes towards gypsies softened. They were able to mix with society and this was the time in which flamenco as an art form began to enter the mainstream. As the years went on the gypsies maintained the spontaneity of their art form.<\/p>\n

Como he dicho antes, flamenco todav\u00eda tiene un papel importante en Espa\u00f1a, especialmente en Andaluc\u00eda (una de los regiones que, desde mi punto de vista personal, mantiene m\u00e1s tradiciones que otras regiones). Hay muchos lugares tur\u00edsticos en que es posible ver una obra de flamenco y cenar, o teatros que presentan obras del flamenco. Sin embargo no es solo para las turistas porque los espa\u00f1oles aprended sevillanas y lo bailan en ferias y festivales del verano cada a\u00f1o. No dir\u00eda que es la m\u00fasica m\u00e1s importante en todo el pa\u00eds; aunque tenga mucha historia y forma un papel enorme en la cultural andaluz.<\/em><\/p>\n

Nowadays, music retains its high level of importance, with Spanish and Latin American music entering the international charts for the first time. As British citizens, we do not tend to absorb any media in another language. Our books, films and songs are in the English language. Yet, this seems to be changing, as in the past couple of years reggat\u00f3n has been emerging as a new and exciting genre; not just for Spanish speakers. \u00b4Despacito<\/em>\u00b4 was the second most purchased\/downloaded song in 2017. Since then, we have seen many other reggat\u00f3n bangers emerging in the UK charts: some with English speaking influences, some not. \u00a8\u00b4Mi gente\u00b4, \u00b4Reggat\u00f3n Lento\u00b4, \u00b4\u00c9chame la culpa\u00b4 <\/em>as well as Shakira\u00b4s \u00b4perro fiel\u00b4 <\/em>have all featured on UK charts recently and have become commonplace in clubs and bars. The popularity of this music is mirrored in Spain.<\/p>\n

Reggat\u00f3n empiece en Puerto Rico en el fin de los 1990s. Sus influencias incluyen m\u00fasica del caribe, el hip hop y m\u00fasica latinoamericano. En 2004, empez\u00e1bamos de o\u00edr reggat\u00f3n para la primera vez. Canciones como \u00b4gasolina\u00b4 todav\u00eda son muy populares en Europa y los Estados Unidos. <\/em><\/p>\n

So nowadays, Spain has played host to an influx of exciting new music, whilst still retaining the cultural relevance of historically important music like flamenco. It is very interesting to see how the relevance of Hispanic music on an international scale has evolved in recent years. Years ago, when hearing \u00b4Spanish music\u00b4 one would imagine either flamenco, or a Mexican Mariachi band wearing enormous sombreros with amusing facial hair. Nowadays \u00b4pop\u00b4 music includes many a Spanish language song, retaining its own history and culture whilst also creating these popular style songs too.<\/p>\n
