Si vous n\u2019avez pas lu mon premier blog vous pouvez le trouver <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/globetrotters\/lingomap-being-a-young-person-in-a-french-speaking-society\/\">ici<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Depuis mon premier blog en janvier, la France a connu les manifestations \u00e0 grande \u00e9chelle. Ces manifestations concernent un effort par le Pr\u00e9sident fran\u00e7ais, Emmanuel Macron, d\u2019introduire les s\u00e9lections pour \u00e9tudier \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9.\u00a0En ce moment, pour \u00e9tudi\u00e9r \u00e0 l\u2019universit\u00e9 en France on n\u2019a que besoin du baccalaur\u00e9at. Le baccalaur\u00e9at est un dipl\u00f4me qui est l&#8217;\u00e9quivalent aux \u00ab<\/em>\u00a0A-Levels<em>\u00a0\u00bb en Grande-Bretagne.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Sous les s\u00e9lections pr\u00e9vues par le Pr\u00e9sident le syst\u00e8me universitaire deviendrait plus comme le syst\u00e8me britannique &#8211; avec une place \u00e0 l&#8217;universit\u00e9 d\u00e9pendant des notes gagn\u00e9es dans le baccalaur\u00e9at. Des manifestants occupant un amphith\u00e9\u00e2tre de l&#8217;universit\u00e9 de\u00a0Montpellier ont \u00e9t\u00e9 attaqu\u00e9s par des hommes cagoul\u00e9s, parmi eux professeurs et charg\u00e9s des TD\u00a0<\/em>(tutors).<\/p>\n<p>A (surprisingly) big day in the French calendar (at least in Nantes) is the 17th March, St Patrick&#8217;s Day, and it is a day when all those Irish pubs I mentioned in my last blog really come into their own. The streets of Nantes are filled with people wearing leprechaun hats and enjoying a Guinness! So much so that many of the bars set up Guinness pumps outside to keep up with demand! St Patrick&#8217;s Day 2018 also happened to coincide with the final weekend of\u00a0<em>le Tournoi des Six Nations,\u00a0<\/em>meaning the celebrating started early and carried on well into the early hours of the morning!<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 493px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/scontent-cdg2-1.xx.fbcdn.net\/v\/t1.0-9\/29496938_10157512194190620_2595650880651229716_n.jpg?_nc_cat=0&amp;oh=caba8b8a29214f3acee3b11ee653dd0d&amp;oe=5B740FED\" alt=\"\" width=\"493\" height=\"327\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">The streets outside my favourite haunt, John McByrne&#8217;s, were filled with people celebrating St Patrick&#8217;s (Image source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/irishpubnantes\/\">John McByrne&#8217;s<\/a>).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>St Patrick&#8217;s Day provided the perfect opportunity to practice my French speaking skills in a more informal, everyday situation outside of my university studies. With Nantes being a multi-cultural city you run into people from a variety of\u00a0<em>pays francophone<\/em>, such as\u00a0<em>les pays du Maghreb &#8211; l&#8217;Alg\u00e9rie, la Tunisie et le Maroc &#8211; ainsi que les autres pays francophones africains comme le S\u00e9n\u00e9gal et la C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>I apologise for the slightly shorter blog post this month, but with the second semester shortly coming to an end and with exam season nearly upon us I have been inundated with university work.
