Your experience abroad

Tell us about your global opportunity—where did you go, and what did you do?
I took part in the International Summer School at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), where I studied International Finance and Demystifying Artificial Intelligence. During the programme, I attended lectures and tutorials, completed coursework and practical AI labs, and worked on an AI-related final project. It was also a great opportunity to experience university life in Hong Kong, meet students from different backgrounds, and explore a new academic and cultural environment.

What surprised you the most about your host country/programme/time abroad?
What surprised me the most was how many new friends I made from different countries and backgrounds. I didn’t expect to meet so many people in such a short time, and it was really interesting to learn about their cultures, experiences, and different ways of thinking. These friendships became one of the most memorable parts of my time abroad.

What is the one thing you miss about your time abroad?
The thing I miss most is the variety of cultural activities organised during the programme. We had opportunities to explore Hong Kong, take part in traditional handicraft activities, and join trips around the city. These experiences allowed me to learn more about Hong Kong’s culture beyond the classroom and made the whole summer programme much more memorable.

A bit about you!

What’s something you’re passionate about outside of your studies?
Outside of my studies, I’m really passionate about travelling and exploring different places and cultures. I enjoy trying local food, discovering new places, and meeting people from different backgrounds. For me, travelling is not just about seeing new places, but also about experiencing different ways of life and creating new memories.

What’s your favourite place on campus/in Cardiff?
My favourite place on campus is the library. I enjoy the quiet atmosphere, and it’s a great place for me to study, focus, and get things done.

If you could live anywhere in the world for a year (a dream destination), where would it be—and why?
I think I would choose Barcelona. I love its beautiful architecture, warm weather, vibrant culture, and relaxed lifestyle. I would also love the opportunity to experience Spanish culture, try more local food, and explore the city at a slower pace while living there for a whole year.

What’s a fun fact most people don’t know about you?
A fun fact about me is that I can perform traditional Chinese lion dance, and I also know a little bit of Kung Fu! I learned both when I was younger, so it’s always a fun surprise when people find out.

Reflections and Advice

Describe your global experience in three words
Eye-opening Enriching Memorable

What advice would you give to students considering a global opportunity?
Make the most of every moment because the experience goes by much faster than you expect! Try to say yes to new experiences, meet new people, explore as much as you can, and step outside your comfort zone. Opportunities like this may not come around very often, so enjoy it fully and create as many unforgettable memories as possible.
