LingoMap: Entertainment and Leisure
Annecy
Annecy, a small town in the Alps is one of the first places I visited during my time in France, and is literally like stepping into a real life fairytale. It has an old town filled with brightly coloured buildings and cobbled streets, and right in the centre there’s a floating castle in the middle of the river called ‘le palais de l’isle’ (literally translates to ‘the island palace’. Nearby there is a massive lake with incredible views of the mountains, which we saw people going round in little pedal boats (needless to say I gave that one a miss). Also, here is where I tried fondue for the first time which was amazing!
Paris
I had been to Paris a couple of times before, but I really wanted to go again as there were still a number of places I wanted to see. By far my favourite place that I saw this time was Montmartre, which wasn’t actually at top of my list originally, but after ticking off everything else and having ended up having a few hours left until my coach to Lyon the next day so I decided to give it a visit. Firstly, I went to see the Sacré Coeur which has such a lovely view of the whole city from the top. Then, being the Amélie obsessed French student I am, I went and found some of the places it was filmed, including the Café des 2 Moulins.
Grenoble
La fête des lumières (the Lyon light festival) is a festival held in Lyon every year where all the cities main buildings are lit up with really cool light shows. It is definitely one of the busiest things that I’ve ever been to, since people from all over the world come to see it every year. My favourite one that I saw has got to be the old town (pictured below)
