Tell us about yourself and what motivated you to take up a year/semester abroad in Cardiff?

I am in my third year of my four year undergrad degree in communications. I love travel and planned on taking a semester abroad when I started university. I chose Cardiff due to the interesting modules, smaller city size, and wanted to join the ice skating club. I also had never been to Wales but had heard great things which also motivated me to visit somewhere new.

Can you tell us about the learning and teaching environment at Cardiff University?

The learning environment has been extremely positive. My professors are all very kind and want their students to succeed. They feel very approachable and understanding and are always available to meet. I find that I am learning more practical skills that will help me find a job, compared to my home university style.

What are your highlights from your time in Cardiff ?

One of my favourite highlights was attending a Six Nations game. I had never been to a rugby game but the atmosphere and crowd was so exciting and positive. Another highlight has been visiting Cardiff market and trying the different restaurants there, they have all been delicious. I also went to a Cardiff Devils hockey game which was incredible and made me feel like I was back home in Canada!

What advice would you give to other students when applying for the programme?

The process was lengthy but very straightforward and easy to understand. Advice I would give is to take your time with the application, as numerous factors can pile up and become overwhelming, especially when working, being in school, etc.
