What motivated you to take up a year/semester abroad in Cardiff?
I have always wanted to do a semester abroad because I believe it is a unique experience and it is a good opportunity to experience a different culture and environment. I chose Cardiff because it is a small but vibrant city. I also chose Cardiff University as it is a research intensive university, and academic research is something I am interested in pursuing in the future.
Can you tell us about the learning and teaching environment at Cardiff University?
From my experience, the lecturers at Cardiff University were really passionate about the subject they were teaching and were approachable and helpful. There are many different places to study depending on your preference, including libraries with spaces for group discussion as well as quiet zones, and social study spaces in the Students’ Union building.
What are your highlights from your time in Cardiff ?
Some of my favourite places I visited are Cardiff Bay and Brecon Beacons National Park. I also had lots of fun watching the Rugby World Cup at pubs and going for afternoon tea with my friends. I also enjoyed just walking around the city centre, especially during Christmas time when there are Christmas markets.
What advice would you give to other students when applying for the programme?
The process of applying for this programme was relatively straight-forward and the Global Opportunities team at Cardiff was always there to help. One thing to note is to get as many spare modules as possible approved in case of unforeseen timetable clashes.
Definitely sign up for tours and meet ups before the semester starts. It’s a great chance to get to know people – some people I met at these events have become my friends who I’ve continued to keep in touch throughout the semester.
