What motivated you to take up a year/semester abroad in Cardiff?
I was motivated to study abroad in Cardiff mainly because of its direct links with the University of Sydney and because it is known for its great give it a go programs.
Can you tell us about student life on campus?
As a student who prefers activities outside the party scene, joining societies has been a rewarding choice. The campus offers a diverse range of clubs, and I’m actively involved in the Islamic Society, where weekly events provide a fun and inclusive atmosphere. The Student’s Union is a hub for various societies, offering a platform for both social and culturally enriching experiences. This engagement has allowed me to forge meaningful connections and enjoy a fulfilling student life beyond the party culture.
Can you tell us about the learning and teaching environment at Cardiff University?
The teaching environment at Cardiff University leans towards independence, requiring students to navigate coursework autonomously. Many classes consist of only one lecture per week, supplemented by a substantial amount of readings, emphasising self-directed learning and personal responsibility for academic progress.
What was your biggest challenge?
My primary challenge was adjusting to solo living. Overcoming it involved establishing a consistent routine and gradually developing effective time management skills. As I embraced my newfound independence, the initial hurdles of living alone became more manageable.
Can you sum up your experience in one sentence?
My study abroad experience has been incredible, filled with the formation of lasting friendships and the exploration of the charming landscapes of the UK during all my free moments.
