ORCID and significance in REF

I’ve just had an email via the ARMA electronic lists, prompting people to response to two Jisc surveys/consultations: one is about research management systems (jisc really want to help HEIs in this respect, but it’s all very technical so a bit over my head!) and the other is about signing up to ORCID.

ORCID is the system that will provide individual researchers unique identifiers. This will facilitate the world of citations, linking outputs to projects, and as suggested in the Jisc consultation paper, could be a requirement, or at least have significant bearing, in the next REF.

ORCID is perhaps something that individual researchers are pursuing given the benefit it offers, but perhaps should be something we support more systematically across the institution.
