We held our annual Erasmus Reception at the Centre on 22 October. This event is an opportunity to introduce our objectives and services to students visiting Cardiff University on an Erasmus+ study exchange. UK students considering a similar exchange to another participating country are also welcomed.

In all this year about seventy students attended the reception coming from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Czech Republic, Greece, Luxembourg, Romania, Sweden and the UK, plus guests from Turkey, Egypt, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Japan. The students were from a wide range of academic departments – in addition to Modern Languages and Law and Politics, there were people from Planning and Geography, Biosciences, Business, Engineering, Music, Optometry, Pharmacy and Healthcare.

Ian Thomson welcomed the students, and Frederico Rocha introduced them to our information service European Sources Online. Jakub Janas, a student from Poland undertaking a Master’s degree in Cardiff, also spoke of his previous Erasmus exchange experience in Spain.

As is usual at our events we offered a delicious buffet and drinks to guests.

The event raises the profile of the Cardiff EDC and encourages students to make use of our enquiry service, ESO, and study facilities, attend our events, and even apply for one of our part-time internships.

We are grateful to the Representation of the European Commission in Wales for their support of the event.
