Announcement

Add your details and change your default layout

14 June 2017

With our latest update, we’ve fixed a bug that meant you couldn’t give us any details and added some options to allow you to customise your blogs a bit more.

It’s been a while since the last update to the blogs service, mainly because there has been a lot going on in the background to ensure that the service is as resilient and stable as possible, and to make sure that we can test all the updates thoroughly before we apply them to the live service. Now we’ve done all of that, we’re hoping to provide more regular updates to the theme and the WordPress service as a whole.

Latest updates

  • WordPress core updated to version 4.8 and all plugins updated to latest versions.
  • Corporate theme updated
With the latest theme update, you shouldn’t notice too many changes unless you’re logged in to the Admin backend. The main thing you can now do though is update your details!
Due to an oversight when this feature was first introduced, the screen to update your details was only accessible to superadmins, meaning that most of you couldn’t access it. Now you can, so please do, as this will mean we can easily contact you in the event of any problems or queries regarding your blog. Go to Settings > Site Registration.
The second change is to your layout options. Some people asked whether they could change the way their featured images displayed on posts and how the left nav and right sidebar worked. All these settings can now be changed globally via Settings > Theme Settings.
Note that this will change your site-wide defaults, but you can also change the settings on a per-post basis via the ‘Layout options’ metabox.

It may not seem like much, but most of the changes should hopefully go unnoticed. As ever, please inform the web team of any problems by contacting insrvConnect@cardiff.ac.uk, FAO The Web Team.
