I\u2019m trying to save my family: Parent experiences of child criminal exploitation. <i>Youth Justice<\/i>.<\/div>\n<div>\n<p>This paper presents interview findings from parents with lived experience of parenting a criminally exploited child.<\/p>\n<p>Background<\/p>\n<p>Findings were taken from a larger <a href=\"https:\/\/eur03.safelinks.protection.outlook.com\/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fhealthandcareresearchwales.org%2F&amp;data=05%7C01%7CCserzoDC%40cardiff.ac.uk%7C6dfbbdae90704dd2d3aa08db0dc9e6ad%7Cbdb74b3095684856bdbf06759778fcbc%7C1%7C0%7C638118933019489072%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000%7C%7C%7C&amp;sdata=z5nOQDRE3KfK0iviRI%2FlQQXhpmP4cGDjunOiagb73jg%3D&amp;reserved=0\"><em>Health and Care Research Wales<\/em><\/a>\u00a0funded research project aimed at enhancing service and community responses to child criminal exploitation related to drug dealing activities.<\/p>\n<p>Key messages<\/p>\n<p>Early warning signs, such as behaviour changes, disengagement from school and child disappearances were often rationalised in response to family circumstances or normal teenage development.<\/p>\n<p>Not knowing the child\u2019s whereabouts, increased missing episodes and disengagement from the family prompted parents to seek help.<\/p>\n<p>Findings highlighted the need for parent involvement in the development of suitable responses at the individual, local and national levels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/complexsafeguardingwales.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/35\/2023\/02\/Maxwell-2022-1.pdf\">Click here<\/a> to download the full research paper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Maxwell, N.
