{"id":1155,"date":"2018-10-02T11:29:02","date_gmt":"2018-10-02T11:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/centre-for-trials-research\/?p=1155"},"modified":"2022-04-13T13:59:10","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T13:59:10","slug":"making-research-funding-applications-for-the-nhs-and-social-care","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/centre-for-trials-research\/making-research-funding-applications-for-the-nhs-and-social-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Making Research Funding Applications For The NHS And Social Care"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Making Research Funding Applications for the NHS and Social Care<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Research Design and Conduct Service (RDCS) South East Wales supports staff working within the National Health Service and social care to develop high quality research funding proposals.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The RDCS South East Wales held their second annual event of the year on 13<sup>th<\/sup> September 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Located in the wonderful committee rooms of the Glamorgan building \u2013 our 1<sup>st<\/sup> event since Mark left and Theo Riley\u2019s first as part of the team (welcome Theo)!<\/p>\n<h2>Research funding proposals<\/h2>\n<p>This RDCS event was aimed at practitioners interested in developing a proposal for research funding and included a mix of presentations and hands-on practice.<\/p>\n<h2>Funding streams and observer feedback<\/h2>\n<p>The day began with a presentation about Research for Public and Patient Benefit (RfPPB) funding available from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthandcareresearch.gov.wales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Health and Care Research Wales<\/a>. We shared with delegates an overview of the funding stream, details on the themed call element for this year, as well as feedback from observing funding panels.<\/p>\n<h2>Importance of lay summaries<\/h2>\n<p>This was followed by a presentation about the importance of a lay summary and how they are used as part of the application process. Delegates were given time to review a scientific and lay summary as well as an opportunity to draft their own lay summary with support from RDCS consultants.<\/p>\n<h2>Research design and planning<\/h2>\n<p>An important part of any application is the research design and Professor Kerry Hood was able to provide some very useful information about what you need to consider when designing your study.\u00a0 We also had presentations on R &amp; D processes, Health Economics and its role in research and Gantt charts to help planning research activity and costings.
