{"id":163,"date":"2016-04-15T15:34:01","date_gmt":"2016-04-15T15:34:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/centre-for-trials-research\/?page_id=163"},"modified":"2025-10-07T15:06:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T15:06:17","slug":"about-us","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/centre-for-trials-research\/about-us\/","title":{"rendered":"About Us"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Registered clinical trials unit<\/h2>\n<p>The Centre for Trials Research is a UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) registered clinical trials unit.<\/p>\n<p>The Centre is home to researchers, trial managers, computer systems experts, data managers, administrators, quality assurance managers and statisticians.<\/p>\n<h2>Building partnerships<\/h2>\n<p>As a result of our wide pool of expertise, we are able to navigate the complexities of each stage of the research pathway, from putting together effective funding proposals to conducting well-designed studies that feature in peer-reviewed publications. This enables us to partner both with first-time and seasoned researchers from the NHS and industry, as well as academia.<\/p>\n<h2>Research aims<\/h2>\n<p>We aim to prevent ill-health, protect and prolong life by:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>designing, developing and testing services and interventions to improve health and wellbeing<\/li>\n<li>understanding the biological, environmental and social causes of disease and determinants of health risk behaviours<\/li>\n<li>translating and implementing evidence into policy and practice process, from laboratory science through to improved medical and healthcare practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Centre Research Portfolio<\/h2>\n<p>Our current research portfolio is extensive and covers behaviour change, solid cancer and blood cancers, children and young people, and infections.<\/p>\n<p>We are continuing to develop well-designed studies outside our core areas, including trials for medical devices, and are establishing a portfolio of research on the older person.<\/p>\n<h2>Increasing research capacity<\/h2>\n<p>The Centre for Trials Research is publicly funded by Welsh Government through Health and Care Research Wales to enable applied research that informs policy in health and social care in Wales and the UK.
