In tandem to the disciplinary expansion of forensic linguistics, a number of other scholarly traditions from both within and without language studies have recently found scholarly salience in legal language. We believe that the study of the language of the law is greatly strengthened through intersections, where scholars work together across disciplines, mixing methods, and ensuring robust analysis by triangulating data sources. This seminar will highlight the array of work now being undertaken at the legal-linguistics interface, with new approaches and methods being applied to powerful, socially fundamental texts. Five papers have been confirmed, with more to follow:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Federica Formato (Lancaster University\/Edge Hill University):<\/strong>\u00a0Addressing a void in the law: A linguistic investigation of\u00a0<em>femminicidio<\/em>\u00a0in the Italian media through a multimethod analysis<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Griffin (Cardiff University):<\/strong>\u00a0A genre analysis framework for the examination of Sovereign Citizen pseudolegal texts<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stuart Macdonald and Nuria Lorenzo-Dus (Swansea University):<\/strong>\u00a0Purposive and performative persuasion: The linguistic basis for criminalising the encouragement of terrorism<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jemina Napier (Heriot-Watt University):<\/strong>\u00a0The merits of triangulation: Investigating legal interpreting with deaf sign language users<\/li>\n<li><strong>David Wright (Nottingham Trent University):<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cTwo guys asked me \u2018how old are you babe?\u2019\u201d: Linguistic, psychological and legal perspectives on the street harassment of children<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Call for participation:\u00a0<\/strong>Registration for this event is now open.
