In our latest post, Dr Eleri Rosier, Director of Postgraduate Recruitment and Admissions, gives us an insight into some of the changes Cardiff Business School and Cardiff University are implementing to ensure a safe welcome and quality learning experience within current public health guidelines.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The past months have presented us all with\na range of professional and personal challenges. Throughout, we\u2019ve focused on\nthe health and wellbeing of our staff and students, and all of us, in one\nway or another, have played a part in adapting our learning, teaching, research\nand wider activities to meet both the challenges of COVID-19 and the needs\nof our community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Part of my role in this has been to work\ntogether with School, College and University colleagues to finalise plans for\nwelcoming students to our School and our city campus ready\nfor the 2020\/21 academic year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As well as gathering our own ideas, in\nrecent weeks, we\u2019ve been listening to our offer-holders – considering\ntheir needs and how we welcome them to Cardiff safely. New and returning\nundergraduate students will join us in late September as usual but we\u2019re\nproviding a staggered start for our postgraduate programmes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that University orientation and postgraduate\nprogramme start dates have been amended<\/a> and we will welcome students\nin three stages \u2013 September for our part-time programmes, November for our\nspecialist master\u2019s programmes, and January for our MBA programmes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A safe and welcoming city campus<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The University has published a range\nof plans about how we\u2019ll operate a safe and welcoming campus<\/a> and outlined the measures put\nin place for teaching, accommodation, social and sports activities, and\nhygiene and safety processes to achieve this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, Cardiff Council has made adaptations to its sites,\nstreets, and green spaces to meet public health guidelines related to the\npandemic<\/a>. These include one-way systems, pedestrianised roadways,\nand expanded walkways to aid physical distancing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an already compact city,\nthese changes are sure to make all the difference to the experiences of\nstudents as they make Cardiff their home<\/a>. It\u2019ll also offer them an\nopportunity to look beyond our city centre to Wales\u2019 beautiful country\nand coastal landscapes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As always, our priority is to provide students\nwith a high-quality learning experience that\u2019ll help them make a difference in their work and in their\nlives<\/a>. This underpins our plans for the new academic\nyear, complemented by an increased focus on health and safety. Our\nstudents will receive a university experience that\u2019s both high\nquality and safe through a flexible mixture of digital and\non-site learning activities. This includes access to campus for\nsmall group activities that\u2019ll enrich their studies and build a sense\nof community while still complying with physical distancing requirements.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re fortunate too that here in the\nBusiness School colleagues have been sharing their experiences and best practice\ninsights through a series of webinars. And we\u2019ve also attended sessions\ndelivered by experts in online learning to discuss how we can really maximise\nthis type of blended approach for those joining us next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the same way as we\u2019ve<\/em> sought\nclarity and honesty in our personal and professional lives throughout this\npandemic, it\u2019s been important for us to open up lines of communication with our\nprospective students. And so, in addition to University correspondence, I\u2019ve\nbeen in touch with our postgraduates on a number of occasions over recent\nmonths. Likewise, we have reached out to our prospective undergraduates and PhD\nstudents. That\u2019s not to mention our continuing cohorts for whom, like many of\nus, these changes will perhaps feel more significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout, we\u2019ve been mindful of email\nfatigue – I\u2019ve certainly felt it and I\u2019m sure all of us have to some degree. To\noffset some of this, we\u2019ve put together an infographic to communicate some of\nthe key changes to the Cardiff Business School experience in 2020\/21. It brings\ntogether much of what I\u2019ve covered here in a way that\u2019s more easily digestible\nand we\u2019ll be using it on our School social media accounts on Facebook<\/a> and Twitter<\/a>. I encourage you to share it with your\nnetworks too, where appropriate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope that this resource will play its\npart, between now and the start of the next academic year, as we continue to introduce students\nto our faculty, update them on their modules, and prepare them\nfor interactive digital learning, so they can springboard\ninto their studies and receive the world-class learning\nexperience they expect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m confident that together we\u2019ll make\n2020\/21\u202fan exciting and memorable year for all at Cardiff Business\nSchool. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
