In our latest post, Dr Yingli Wang reflects on her involvement in the first-ever Wales Tech Week which took place between 13-17 July 2020.<\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We\u2019re at something of\r\na turning point in Wales when it comes to enabling and digital technology. From\r\nglobal technology leaders, to our growing start-up scene, there are achievements,\r\ninnovation, and knowledge within Wales to celebrate. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Particularly in the\r\nindustrial and service sector landscapes, these advances are no longer simply underpinning\r\n– they\u2019re transforming and disrupting the way we live, work and play.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This has become more\r\napparent than ever before as we\u2019ve adapted to new ways of working, learning and\r\ncommunicating with our families and our friends during the COVID-19 pandemic. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Technology has enabled\r\nmany of these adaptations. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

And so, it seemed\r\ntimely that against this backdrop Wales Tech Week<\/a> got underway.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Organised by Technology Connected<\/a> \u2013 the leading network for technology in Wales\r\n\u2013 the interactive virtual festival showcased the breadth, strength and\r\ndiversity of Wales\u2019 technology industry.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Over five days, a\r\ncomprehensive programme of webinars, workshops and digital events took place for\r\ntechnology businesses and supporting industries in Wales and beyond.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The week was also an\r\nopportunity to launch a group I\u2019ve been involved with for some time now, the Blockchain\r\nConnected network. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Blockchain Connected\r\nis a new organisation within Technology Connected to represent and unite the\r\nblockchain community in Wales, to help build and promote the profile and\r\nadoption of blockchain technologies and organisations in Wales and beyond. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

With the launch of Blockchain\r\nConnected<\/a>, we’re\r\nlooking to harness the talent that exists within Wales to create a\r\ncollaborative community that will help ensure Wales places blockchain as a key\r\npart of the future of our economy.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

To mark this, the\r\nfestival held a range of blockchain themed interactive webinars. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Together with Professor\r\nArnold Beckmann, from Swansea University\u2019s School of Computer Science, I organised\r\nand chaired the Blockchain Research showcase event. We brought together\r\nacademic colleagues from across Welsh Universities and researchers from\r\nindustry to showcase the latest research developments on blockchain. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The showcase was made\r\nup of two digital seminars which you can watch on YouTube. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
