After achieving a First in year one of his degree, Sam Fisher was eligible to apply for an integrated work placement. After the challenging formalities of job applications, CV writing and interviews, Sam was successful in securing a placement at Delio Wealth<\/a> – a scale-up company operating out of Cardiff with operations globally too. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In our latest blog post, he explains why working at Delio was such an important part of his University experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Completing some level of work experience within an industry\nis one of the most valuable things you can do to enhance your skills and\nincrease your chances of future success in employment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

While university gives you the ability to learn new and\ninsightful theories, placements provide you with the opportunity to apply this\nknowledge in the real, commercial world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I saw the placement opportunity offered by Delio, I was\ninstantly keen to be part of their ever-growing team. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delio is a scale-up company operating out of Cardiff –\nalthough it has operations globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technology in business <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Why did the FinTech sector attract me? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, the simple answer is because it is one of the\nfastest-growing industries in the world. Many financial institutions now rely\nheavily on technology and the services that FinTech companies provide. The\napplication of technology in business is transforming the way organisations\noperate. So, to join a company that specialises in tech was an opportunity I\nhad to grasp. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What intrigued me, even more, was the job role itself. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delio was looking for someone to join their newly created\nmarketing team, and this interested me massively since marketing was one of my\nfavourite modules during my opening years at university. I was keen to see how\nthe various theories I learned during my lectures could be applied to a dynamic\nFinTech business. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marketing to outsiders is often associated purely with\nselling, so I was keen to use my placement to show people that there\u2019s so much\nmore to it than this. It\u2019s a department of a business that I believe is the\nreal driving force in moving an organisation forward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, it\u2019s needless to say the marketing role would enable\nme to develop my personal and professional skills further, helping me to become\nmore employable in the future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becoming part of Delio and its marketing team<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The exposure I\u2019ve been given within Delio has been\nfantastic, and it\u2019s given me some great insights on how to effectively carry\nout a marketing role. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of my first tasks was to implement a continuous and\nregularly updated social media plan. At the start, this was quite a shock since\nI wasn\u2019t expecting to be put in charge of something so important. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, I took on this task with great eagerness and\nenthusiasm and have helped engage with our social media base and improve our\nmetrics compared to when I joined. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Delio have continuously supported me during the weeks I\u2019ve\nbeen here and have given me the freedom to express myself – not just within the\nmarketing team but across the business as a whole. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019m thrilled I was given this opportunity to experience\nsomething new towards the end of my academic career by Cardiff University.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Fisher is a second-year student on the BSc Business Management <\/a>programme at Cardiff Business School.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
