Over the last six months, I&#8217;ve been organising various\u00a0equality and diversity events. Here some of the interesting things I would like to suggest as\u00a0summer reading on equality &amp; diversity. Nothing academic &#8211; easy to read and maybe inspiring. Walk boldly toward them<\/a><br \/>\n\u201cBiases are the stories we make up about people before we know who they actually are.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>Comment: Focussed on the US but relevant to the whole world!<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/jenni_chang_and_lisa_dazols_this_is_what_lgbt_life_is_like_around_the_world\">Jenni Chang and Lisa Dazols: This is what LGBT life is like around the world<\/a><br \/>\n\u201cIt\u2019s a love story\u201d.<br \/>\n<em>Comment: this brought a tear to my eye.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/michael_kimmel_why_gender_equality_is_good_for_everyone_men_included?language=en\">Michael Kimmel: Why gender equality is good for everyone \u2014 men included<\/a><br \/>\n\u201cPrivilege is invisible to those who have it\u201d<br \/>\n<em>Comment: It\u2019s quite funny. Aimed at men &#8211;\u00a0relevant to us all.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Books<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/How_to_Win_Friends_and_Influence_People\">\u201cHow To Win Friends and Influence People\u201d<\/a><br \/>\nBy Dale Carnegie<br \/>\n<em>Comment: This remains one of the best books on communication that I have ever read and the advice is timeless. I like<\/em><\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikibooks.org\/wiki\/Seven_Habits_Study_Guide\/Quick_overview_of_the_seven_habits\">Seven Habits of Highly Effective People<\/a>\u201d by Steven Covey<br \/>\n<em>Comment: One of the best selling self help books &#8211; I like &#8220;Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood&#8221;<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Some other books<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe Spirit Level: Why Equality is Better for Everyone\u201d by Kate Pickett &amp; Richard Wilkinson<br \/>\n<em>Comment: It\u2019s controversial, some of the graphs are poorly labelled but it\u2019s thought provoking.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>\u201cStart Where You Are: How to accept yourself and others\u201d by Pema Ch\u00f6dr\u00f6n (Author)<br \/>\n<em>Comment: I found this book very useful for developing compassion towards myself first and then others.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"For me, summer delights include freshly picked fruit and some time to read.
