The problem isn’t a lack of expertise. It’s that a lot of that expertise sits in different places, uses different language, and isn’t always easy to find.

That’s where Communicating Digital Healthcare Innovation (CD-HI) comes in.

CD-HI is a new network led by Cardiff University’s BioResource Data Accelerator team, supported by funding from the Digital Transformation Innovation Institute (DTII). Its aim is simple: bring together the people who enable healthcare data research and innovation across Wales, and make it easier for them to learn from one another.

So how will it work?

Rather than starting with formal committees, meetings and endless PowerPoint slides, we’re taking a slightly different approach.

We’ll be inviting people from across the healthcare data ecosystem to share their experiences, insights and practical knowledge through a series of short, accessible blog posts. These will cover everything from data access and governance to research methods, technical infrastructure, patient involvement and real-world case studies.

To help make that happen, we’re bringing contributors together through workshops and a writers’ retreat, giving people space to step away from the day job, meet colleagues from different backgrounds, and create content collaboratively.

Building a shared knowledge hub

The ultimate goal is to create a digital knowledge hub that’s useful for everyone, whether you’re a professor, clinician, analyst, governance lead, PhD student, or simply curious about how healthcare data is used to improve lives.

The hub will contain:

Bite-sized explainer blogs

Practical guides and case studies

Shared-language glossaries

Information on routes to access healthcare data

Advice on best practice

Real stories from people working in the field every day

Importantly, it will be created by the community itself, drawing on expertise from across academia, the NHS, infrastructure organisations, governance teams and patient groups.

Why does it matter?

Healthcare data innovation depends on collaboration. Great ideas often stall not because the science is difficult, but because people don’t know who to talk to, what process to follow, or where to find the right information.

By helping people share knowledge, build relationships and develop a common language, CD-HI aims to make digital healthcare innovation easier, faster and more connected across Wales.

In short, we’re trying to lift the lid on all the brilliant work already happening, connect the people doing it, and create a resource that continues to help researchers, professionals and patients long after the project itself has finished.

After all, the healthcare data jigsaw is already there. CD-HI is simply helping everyone see how the pieces fit together.

[15

post-67","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cd-hi
["GET
