Daniel Swygart <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">(BScEcon 2017)<\/span> who studied <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/courses\/2019\/economics-bsc-econ\">BScEcon Economics<\/a> at the School embodies this ethos and describes Cardiff as the place his \u201cbusiness vision and empire all began\u201d.<\/h3><!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cardiff is a great university in a vibrant student city. It&#8217;s also not only a capital city, but close to the countryside if you&#8217;re into outdoor extreme sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Being an Economics student at Cardiff University gave me both the confidence and mind set for entrepreneurialism.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiffstudents.com\/jobs-skills\/enterprise\/\">Enterprise &amp; Start-Up<\/a> is a joint initiative between Cardiff University and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiffstudents.com\/\">Cardiff University Students&#8217; Union<\/a> to help students realise their full potential in business and entrepreneurship and they helped me massively in the first steps to becoming an entrepreneur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After University I started my own tech company called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alpacr.com\/\">Alpacr<\/a>. Alpacr\nis a social platform that connects the world through travel and adventure. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The platform\nlaunched in 2018 across 12 European cities, raised over $0.5m in investment,\nand has an incredible team of 12. Notably Alpacr\u2019s Non-Executive Director is\nTyler Droll, former Forbes 30 under 30, CEO of YikYak, an app worth $400m, and\nraised $74m in investment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>A highlight for me since leaving University was when Alpacr won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/news\/view\/964993-cardiff-start-up-founder-meets-sir-richard-branson\">Virgin Voom pitch competition which was hosted by Sir Richard Branson<\/a>. The competition sees businesses from across the UK pitch their ideas to win a share of \u00a31m in prizes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Giving advice to current students who want to run their own\nbusiness, I\u2019d say three things: Vision, Determination, and Adaptability. Set\nyour vision far, you can achieve a lot with hard work and dedication.
