It\u2019s been a spectacular sporting summer for students and alumni alike, with Cardiff represented across a range of disciplines.<\/p>\n

Rugby Union was the source of great success \u2013 not least in the form of Sam Warburton (Hon 2015)<\/span> leading the British & Irish Lions to a historic 1-1 draw in a high-stakes series in New Zealand, potentially securing the future of the historic touring side.<\/p>\n

At the Women\u2019s Rugby World Cup, hosts Ireland have bestowed the armband upon Claire Molloy (MBBCh 2013)<\/span> \u2013 whilst there\u2019s a strong Cardiff contingent in the Welsh team, with Elinor Snowsill (PCET 2014),<\/span><\/span> Robyn Wilkins (BSc 2016)<\/span> and Morfudd Ifans (Accounting and Finance 2016-)<\/span> in the squad.<\/p>\n

Back on the men\u2019s side of the game, Wales also ventured upon a successful June tour of the Pacific Islands skippered by Jamie Roberts (MBBCh 2013),<\/span><\/span> who led his country to consecutive victories over Tonga and Samoa.<\/p>\n

Sticking with a captaincy theme, the Women\u2019s Cricket World Cup Final saw England take on India in at the home of cricket, Lord\u2019s. Hosts England bowled their opponents out in the penultimate over to win by nine runs, and captain Heather Knight (BSc 2012)<\/span> lifted the trophy before a crowd of 24,000.<\/p>\n

The EuroHockey Championships 2017 in Amsterdam have seen Wales call up Cardiff alum across their teams, with Rupert Shipperley (BSc 2014),<\/span><\/span> Sophie Clayton (BDS 2015)<\/span> and Daniel Kyriakides (BSc 2016)<\/span> amongst those wearing red.<\/p>\n

Finally, Tokyo 2020 hopeful Tom Barras (BSc 2015)<\/span> has been selected as part of the Great Britain squad for the 2017 Rowing World Championships, keeping his place in the single scull category. The competition takes place in Florida from 24 September \u2013 1 October.<\/p>\n
