{"id":2186,"date":"2017-07-12T09:01:10","date_gmt":"2017-07-12T09:01:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/?p=2186"},"modified":"2022-05-25T12:55:50","modified_gmt":"2022-05-25T12:55:50","slug":"ultramarathon-challenge-for-cardiff-university-alumnus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/2017\/07\/12\/ultramarathon-challenge-for-cardiff-university-alumnus\/","title":{"rendered":"Ultramarathon challenge for Cardiff University alumnus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\">Jamie Maddison <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">(BA 2009)<span style=\"color: #000000\">,<\/span><\/span> an alumnus\u00a0of the School of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies, is setting off on a 100-mile ultramarathon in Kazakhstan this September.<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old, who currently works as an adventure speaker and content strategist in London, hopes to complete the challenge in 24 hours. Navigating while he runs and followed only by a support vehicle, Jamie will cross the Saryesik-Atyrau desert in East Kazakhstan, a nation which until the 1990s banned travel to and from the European Union.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Jamie\u00a0said: \u201cI\u2019m trying to focus on pockets of the world that people back home know very little about\u2026\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>While studying in Cardiff, Jamie sparked an \u201cintense love for rock climbing\u201d as Secretary for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiffstudents.com\/activities\/sport\/mountaineering\">University\u2019s Mountaineering Club<\/a>.
