{"id":1986,"date":"2017-04-28T09:19:20","date_gmt":"2017-04-28T09:19:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/?p=1986"},"modified":"2022-04-13T16:14:25","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T16:14:25","slug":"growing-the-knowledge-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/2017\/04\/28\/growing-the-knowledge-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Growing the knowledge economy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Outstanding PhD student researchers from Cardiff&#8217;s Doctoral Academy came together with Cardiff University\u00a0alumni in London for Growing the Knowledge Economy &#8211; A showcase of the &#8216;rising stars of research&#8217; at Cardiff University.<\/p>\n<p>The evening began with a gallery\u00a0called <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/ugc\/archives\/9615\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Images of Research<\/a>, a selection of images from Doctoral researchers at Cardiff University. The images\u00a0encapsulate the innovative and\u00a0diverse\u00a0research taking place at\u00a0the University;\u00a0they were a selection from an annual competition hosted by the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/study\/postgraduate\/research\/doctoral-academy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Doctoral Academy<\/a>. Ryan has been\u00a0researching the possibility of\u00a0developing self-sensing aeroplanes to prevent future air disasters and his work has the potential to improve air safety making flights safer, cheaper, greener flights\u00a0with no more delays.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/psych.cf.ac.uk\/contactsandpeople\/brattonla1.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luke Bratton<\/a> <span style=\"color: #ff0000\">(Psychology 2014-)<\/span><span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0discussed<\/span> his work exposing the source of exaggerated scientific claims,\u00a0studying the effects of manipulation to press releases.\u00a0 Luke&#8217;s research looks at how scientific news stories can be exaggerated in the press, with research resulting in headlines such as &#8216;Avocados give you cancer&#8217;.
