{"id":1628,"date":"2017-02-14T10:14:55","date_gmt":"2017-02-14T10:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/?p=1628"},"modified":"2022-04-13T16:14:26","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T16:14:26","slug":"1628","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/2017\/02\/14\/1628\/","title":{"rendered":"We still have a passion for what we learnt at Cardiff, as evident from what we have both been doing since."},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"lead\"> <strong>Chris Wagstaff <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">(BSc 1989)<\/span> <strong>and Dr Helen Powell <\/strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">(BA 1989)<\/span> <strong>fell in love during their time together at Cardiff University, and are still in love thirty years later<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"lead\">\n<p>Helen and I met at University College, Cardiff \u2013 as it used to be known \u2013 in November 1986, on Helen\u2019s 20<sup>th<\/sup> birthday.\u00a0 We were living at University Hall, and met in the residence\u2019s bar.\u00a0 30 years on, we\u2019re still together, living in London with our two cats.\u00a0 We still have a passion for what we learnt at Cardiff, as evident from what we have both been doing since.<\/p>\n<p>Initially working as Head of Research in an Investment Bank, Helen gained an MA in Cultural Studies and a PhD in Film, whilst working at a London advertising agency. Helen is currently Head of Psychosocial Studies at the University of East London, and has written and co-written four books.<\/p>\n<p>I work in asset management \u2013 teaching, writing and presenting.\u00a0 Additionally, I\u2019m a Senior Visiting Fellow at Cass Business School, and have co-written a book on pension scheme investment.\u00a0 My work has been recognised by a number of industry awards, most recently as <em>Industry Champion <\/em>at the <em>Financial Times Awards <\/em>2016.\u00a0 I remain a passionate cyclist, as I was in Cardiff, and ride in the Alps and Pyrenees each summer.<\/p>\n<p>Helen and I have fond memories of our time at Cardiff University and for a short time had a house in Penarth Marina.
