{"id":10237,"date":"2025-03-14T13:57:07","date_gmt":"2025-03-14T13:57:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/?p=10237"},"modified":"2025-03-14T13:57:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-14T13:57:12","slug":"ten-years-of-global-opportunities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/2025\/03\/14\/ten-years-of-global-opportunities\/","title":{"rendered":"Ten years of global opportunities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>This year marks a decade of Cardiff University\u2019s Global Opportunities programme which has supported around 8,000 students to work, study or volunteer abroad.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/study\/student-life\/global-opportunities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The scheme<\/a> gives students the chance to immerse themselves in a new culture and experience life in another country. Living abroad helps them develop transferable skills, build an international network, and cultivate a global perspective that prepares them for their future careers.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, many of our donors have generously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cardiff.ac.uk\/donate\/how-you-can-help\/student-support\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supported the programme<\/a>, making it possible for students to take part, regardless of their financial situation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"post-10241 media-10241\" class=\"image align-right\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/323\/2025\/03\/IMG_1452-small.png\" alt=\"Student Camille stood outside her University in Canada.\" width=\"307\" height=\"398\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Camille Stanley (BA 2019) went to Canada to study marketing as part of the international Summer Programme. The experience helped her develop skills in a new subject area and prepared her for working overseas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy degree programme (English Language and Literature) didn\u2019t include a year abroad, so I was grateful that Cardiff had summer study abroad opportunities. I was interested in learning more about marketing, as well as connecting with other international students. So I decided to do a marketing summer school programme at the University of British Colombia, Canada.<\/p>\n<p>This involved spending seven weeks in Vancouver, living at the University, learning this new subject each day, as well as planned social activities with a group of international students who were studying various subjects. I made some great friends from around the world, and I got to see some incredible Canadian scenery.<\/p>\n<p>Straight after graduating, I joined the civil service in an international marketing team. My time spent in Canada studying marketing helped me achieve this role.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve recently moved to Belgium to work in a corporate partnerships and marketing and communications role at a business school. I now live close to some of the friends I made while studying abroad!
