Thank you for visiting. The purpose of this blog is to share my learning and reflections in medical education. For me, learning is an experience best shared, so please dive in and take a look around. I hope you can use this blog to explore new ideas, and as a ‘conversation starter’ to connect with others in medical education.

A little bit about me

I am a Lecturer in Biomedical Sciences on the undergraduate medicine (MBBCh) programme. Before this, I was a medical student and then worked as a doctor for 2 and a half years in the NHS. I am now a full-time academic and teach medical students on their journey to becoming future doctors. You can read my full bio on the Cardiff University Intranet.

Why I’m starting this blog

Medicine as a subject, for me, is like magic. I am inspired and amazed, that we as humans have crafted the ability to treat illness and cure disease. This is what first got me interested in medicine. Since then, my journey in medicine has evolved.

Through teaching, I’ve realised that ‘how we learn medicine’ is vital for shaping our future doctors and ultimately providing the very best care for patients.

My ambition is that medical school is a place for everyone where all students can thrive. As an individual medical student, I only knew my own experience. Through this blog, I hope to broaden my horizons and share new perspectives. I will learn and reflect on how we can build community as medical educators so medicine is a place for everyone.

When you’ll hear from me

I’m writing my first few blogs over the summer months. I will publish my first blog in mid-September. I’m then aiming to publish a blog once a term to start with, so you can expect 3 blogs throughout the year.
