{"id":647,"date":"2014-12-10T09:48:47","date_gmt":"2014-12-10T09:48:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/eltt\/?p=647"},"modified":"2022-04-13T15:46:57","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T15:46:57","slug":"oer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/LTAcademy\/oer\/","title":{"rendered":"Free Open Educational Resources (OER)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">by Dewi Parry<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">I went to an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.informationliteracy.org.uk\/2014\/11\/free-open-educational-resources-event-in-cardiff\/\">OER workshop<\/a>\u00a0a couple of weeks ago, run by <a style=\"color: #bc360a\" title=\"CoPILOT CILIP page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.cilip.org.uk\/information-literacy-group\/about\/copilot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CoPILOT (Community of Practice for Information Literacy Online Teaching)<\/a>, and I promised to let <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/caemmett\">Catherine<\/a> know what went on! So I thought it would be a good idea to share some of the resources on the blog, along with some other OER related materials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Let us know what you think of them and forward them on to your staff to have a look at if you think they are of value\u00a0(This is by no way a full list of OER resources &#8211; it\u2019s just a starting point).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Jorum<\/b> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.jorum.ac.uk\/\"><span class=\"s2\">http:\/\/www.jorum.ac.uk\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Funded by Jisc, Jorum is the place where you will find free OERs shared and created under CC licenses by those who teach in or create content for HE and FE in the UK. It is possible to find and use thousands of free resources from a wide variety of subject areas. (It\u2019s big, and well worth a look!).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Welsh Educational Resources<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In a meeting of the Coleg Cymraeg last week, I met with staff from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.open.edu\/openlearnworks\/course\/index.php?categoryid=35\">OpenLearn Cymru<\/a> (An initiative by the Open University) &#8211; a suite of resources through the medium of Welsh (initially &#8211; they are looking at bilingual delivery also). You can browse the subject categories to discover articles, watch videos and interact with features created by our academic experts and guest contributors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Positive use of OER<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A recent HEA Article &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/about\/news\/8177\">Learner attitudes to Open Educational Resources (OERs)<\/a>.\u00a0A report presenting findings of a study commissioned by the HEA and conducted by the NUS has found that on the whole students are positive about the use of OERs: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/node\/8029\">Students\u2019 views on learning methods and Open Educational Resources in higher education<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>OER WALES CYMRU<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oerwales.wordpress.com\/\">OER WALES CYMRU<\/a> have a project website, that gives you an idea of what they are up to. You can also follow them on twitter: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/OERwales_cymru\">@OERwales_cymru<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>CC Webinar<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On the subject of CC licenses, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/A_L_T\">ALT<\/a>\u00a0will be running a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.alt.ac.uk\/civicrm\/event\/info?id=135&amp;reset=1\">free webinar on Creative Commons<\/a> on Thursday 11th December at 1pm. Vivien Sieber and Pete Collins &#8211; Educational Technologist at Jorum.
