At first, it\u00a0was\u00a0an oddly moving little fantasy, with her responding\u00a0in pseudo-19th-century style. But I gradually lost the will to believe in\u00a0the prose it was generating \u2013\u00a0maybe it\u00a0was a tall order!\u00a0(Just so you know, she happened to be hallucinating during her final illness, so had the impression of happily communicating with 2025!)\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">A second experiment\u2014a careers advisor\u2014was more successful. The AI asked pertinent questions\u00a0and\u00a0gave plausible advice. However, it\u00a0didn&#8217;t\u00a0seem very natural to present this\u00a0kind of\u00a0activity as an &#8216;Assignment&#8217;.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span (You\u00a0can access\u00a0it\u00a0from\u202f<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/community.anthology.com\/home\/clubs\/michigan-blackboard-user-group\/events\/limitations-of-ai-conversations-in-blackboard-gy668we71b\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">this page<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.)<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">One of his examples involved a three-way conversation,\u00a0with the student playing a therapist and the AI playing both the client and a &#8216;professor&#8217; character\u00a0who\u00a0was available\u00a0for\u00a0advice or feedback at any point.\u00a0Another involved a hidden literary character\u2014Atticus Finch from &#8216;To Kill a Mockingbird&#8217;. However, instead of\u00a0playing\u00a0himself, the AI was given a different public-facing name\u00a0and\u00a0instructed to reply as Atticus Finch.\u00a0This\u00a0demonstrates\u00a0how\u00a0using a well-known literary\u00a0character\u00a0(etc)\u00a0can give you a ready-made shortcut\u00a0to a profile.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Geona\u2019s advice? But you can control the intensity by telling it specifically how to behave.
