Use short, clear sentences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Check out our guidance on <a href=\"https:\/\/cf.sharepoint.com\/:f:\/t\/StudentEngagement\/EkJptCR42QpNsiU4hXsDc7MB1x2_xUI_HDnsdIy-xCvy-w?e=lQiOi2\">communicating in times of change<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Speak in person<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Whether it\u2019s through a video call or an offline session where you\u2019re meeting people in a physical location, talking with your students will always be the quickest and most effective way to communicate with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Invite a response<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You might think that you\u2019ve communicated something clearly, but unless you ask the person you\u2019ve shared the information with, you won\u2019t actually know for sure if they\u2019ve received your update as intended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Make sure you have a way to find out from them if they\u2019ve got the message.<\/li><li>Make it easy for them to contact you if they have queries.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Share it widely<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Always mention key messages on different platforms. You have no idea how successful any individual channel is, so if you\u2019ve emailed it already, mention it in class; if it\u2019s on a display screen, use Learning Central to share it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Follow it up<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mention messages more than once, and follow up with any subsequent news that refer to the original update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">See our guidance on how to <a href=\"https:\/\/cf.sharepoint.com\/:f:\/t\/StudentEngagement\/Erch5didLuFIvqHKVZNucdcBQ65TK7NRJLvZbmdqaUTS4A?e=3iS7CZ\">close the feedback loop with students<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Have a schedule<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Outline a plan for regular communications \u2013 every Thursday, once a month, once a fortnight \u2013 and stick to it. Even if you have no news, give an update to say there are no updates. End messages by telling people when you will be in touch again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Be personable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adopting a personable tone will go a long way to sounding reassuring. Read your emails aloud \u2013 if it doesn\u2019t sound like something you\u2019d actually say in conversation, edit until it does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Know your audience<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adapt your communications to whomever it is you\u2019re speaking with.
