{"id":1118,"date":"2016-02-09T10:12:07","date_gmt":"2016-02-09T10:12:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/eltt\/?p=1118"},"modified":"2022-04-13T15:46:56","modified_gmt":"2022-04-13T15:46:56","slug":"introducing-panopto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/LTAcademy\/introducing-panopto\/","title":{"rendered":"Introducing Panopto"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/karl_luke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Karl Luke<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Capturing lectures, presentations and teaching content for learning<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You may be aware of Cardiff University\u2019s Learn Plus project, which has been promoted in this very blog, including the recent post <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.cardiff.ac.uk\/eltt\/2015\/06\/23\/learn-plus-blackboard-collaborate\/\">Introducing Learn Plus (Panopto) and Blackboard Collaborate.<\/a> As 2016 begins it is worth highlighting some of the practical affordances of the tool \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/panopto.com\/\">Panopto<\/a> \u2013 and communicate what the Learn Plus team have achieved so far and what is on the Horizon in the new year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Introducing Panopto: What does it do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Panopto is Cardiff University\u2019s new event capture tool that enables staff to easily record lectures and make them available on-demand to our students. Staff and students within the early adopter Schools have reported very positive experiences with the tool and we hope to build on these experiences as we begin to rollout Panopto across the University in 2016.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is on the horizon?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>2016 is shaping up to be a very busy year for the Learn Plus team as we prepare to rollout and promote Panopto to staff and student communities. We will shortly be upgrading to Panopto version 5.0, for personal capture use, which brings with it enhanced features and improvements such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mac client support for multi-camera recording and live webcasting;<\/li>\n<li>Live pause and rewind during webcast feeds;<\/li>\n<li>Windows client re-design with the ability to record system audio.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For more information on what\u2019s new in version 5.0 visit this <a href=\"http:\/\/panopto.com\/blog\/whats-new-in-panopto-5-0\/\">blog post from Panopto<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A key Learn Plus milestone is the planned installation of event capture capabilities in a large number of teaching spaces across the University in the next few months and transitioning Panopto into a fully supported University service.<\/p>\n<p>The Learn Plus team will continue to work closely with Cardiff University Students&#8217; Union and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardiffstudents.com\/your-voice\/elected-officers\/vp-education\/\">VP Education<\/a> to manage student expectations, communicate project milestones and promote effective uses of Panopto to enhance student learning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Want to get started?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you would like to get involved and have a requirement for using Panopto please complete the short online form available on <a href=\"https:\/\/intranet.cardiff.ac.uk\/staff\/the-way-forward\/education\/learning-environment\/learn-plus-project\">the Intranet<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We hope that this update gives you an idea of what\u2019s going on in the background at the moment.
