Team Tuesdays- Meet Geraint, Learning Technology Officer

Name: Geraint Evans

Role at the University: Learning Technology Officer (CESI)

What is your role in the Digital Education Programme?
As part of the CESI Digital Education Team I support the work of a number of the working groups. I am particularly interested in the people side of change, and as well as working on both student orientation and staff CPD resources, I am keen to help ensure we have a strong digital education support service going into next year.

Why did you want to be part of the Dig Ed Programme?
As you would expect, I am quite keen on digital education and, after 15 years supporting online and distance learning at Cardiff and elsewhere, thought I might be able to contribute to the programme. I also care deeply about the learning technologist role (and colleagues) in Cardiff University and wanted to play a part in what could be a transformative period for all in the LT community.

What do you enjoy most about being part of the programme?
Having recently joined the team from the School of Social Sciences, the programme is proving a great opportunity to learn about teaching and learning across the University – it has been a real baptism of fire (in a good way). It’s also great working with so many passionate colleagues from a range of schools and departments.

A fact about yourself?
I am a stalwart of the University staff cricket team and looking forward to hopefully getting back to Blackweir Fields before the end of the summer, even though the prospect of an unbeaten (and duckless) season was quite appealing in some ways!

Rôl yn y Brifysgol: Swyddog Technoleg Dysgu (CCAA)

Beth yw eich rôl yn y Rhaglen Addysg Ddigidol?
Fel rhan o Dîm Addysg Ddigidol CESI rwy’n cefnogi gwaith nifer o’r gweithgorau. Mae gen i ddiddordeb arbennig yn yr ochr pobl o newid, ac yn ogystal â gweithio ar gyfeiriadedd myfyrwyr ac adnoddau DPP staff, rwy’n awyddus i helpu i sicrhau bod gennym wasanaeth cymorth addysg ddigidol gryf yn y flwyddyn nesaf.

Pam oeddech chi am fod yn rhan o’r Rhaglen Addysg Ddigidol?
Fel y byddech chi’n ei ddisgwyl, mae gennyf eithaf lot o ddiddordeb mewn addysg ddigidol ac, ar ôl 15 mlynedd yn cefnogi dysgu ar-lein a dysgu o bell yng Nghaerdydd ac mewn mannau eraill, roeddwn i’n meddwl y gallwn i gyfrannu at y rhaglen. Mae rôl y technolegydd dysgu (a chydweithwyr) ym Mhrifysgol Caerdydd hefyd yn feddwl lot i mi ac roeddwn eisiau chwarae rhan yn yr hyn a allai fod yn gyfnod trawsnewidiol i bawb yn y gymuned TD.

Beth ydych chi’n ei fwynhau fwyaf am fod yn rhan o’r rhaglen?
Ar ôl ymuno â’r tîm o’r Ysgol Gwyddorau Cymdeithasol yn ddiweddar, mae’r rhaglen yn profi’n gyfle gwych i ddysgu am addysgu a dysgu ledled y Brifysgol – mae wedi bod yn fedydd tân go iawn (mewn ffordd dda). Mae hefyd yn wych gweithio gyda chymaint o gydweithwyr angerddol o ystod o ysgolion ac adrannau.

Ffaith amdanoch chi’ch hun?
Rwy’n chwarae ar dîm criced staff y Brifysgol ac yn edrych ymlaen at obeithio dychwelyd i Gaeau Blackweir cyn diwedd yr haf, er bod y gobaith o dymor diguro (a di-lachar) yn eithaf apelgar mewn rhai ffyrdd!
