Student Intern Zoe tells us more about our upcoming Science Careers Fair…
Coming to the end of your degree can seem daunting and overwhelming, particularly if you’re unsure of where your degree can take you, or where in fact you want it to take you! That’s where Cardiff University’s Careers and Employability are here to help ease any worries you may have and get you on track to the dream grad job.
Whether you’re a third year or a budding fresher, it’s always useful to start thinking about your future career, and what better way to do so than with the Cardiff University Science Careers Fair! This is an annual event organised by the Employer Liaison Team, which offers a selection of employers from companies targeting students with a science related degree. It’s a great event that could really help you in finding your dream graduate job. You could meet with exhibitors you have already heard of, or find out about companies you had not previously considered, and maybe, just maybe… walk away with a freebie.
So who’s it for?
The event is specifically looking to target students from any science-based discipline. This includes Biosciences, Chemistry, Earth & Ocean Sciences, Physics, Medicine, Engineering, Maths and other Healthcare-related degrees.
However, the fair is open to any Cardiff University student looking for a career in science.
What can I expect from the fair?
The fair itself will have many stands, each of which will hold an exhibitor set up to provide you with information about job opportunities, work experience and internships/placements, as well as to answer any questions you may have.
There will further be a talk scheduled for the day by one of our visiting exhibitors – Environmental Resource Management which will be held in Room 1.40 (Beverton Lecture Theatre). The presentation will begin at 12pm and will generally be targeting students from the school of Earth and Ocean Sciences however they are not limited to only them – if this interests you, please book your place.
On top of these fantastic opportunities, the Science Careers Fair will also allow you to practice your networking skills with potential employers which may prove to be useful when applying for jobs or experience in the future.
Sounds great! When is it taking place?
The fair will take place in the VJ Gallery, Main Building on Wednesday 2nd November between 10.30am and 2pm – so hopefully there should be enough time for you to squeeze in a visit! Your future career may waiting in that gallery… you never know!
Do I need to sign up?
If you’re just coming to browse the stalls at the fair, there is no need for you to sign up – all students are welcome to see what’s on offer.
If you are interested in attending any talks, you need to sign up to them via your careers account – this is important as there are only a limited number of spaces for the event.
See you there!
