PwC, Enterprise Rent –a-Car, The Royal Mail and HSBC were all on campus targeting first year students for their summer internships.

Enterprise Rent – A – Car, one of the UK’s largest graduate recruiters, gave an interactive presentation on employability skills. As a company that receives over 35,000 applications a year the cut throat recruitment process means it is essential that your application stands out! The vast majority of staff begin on the graduate scheme and 100% are promoted from within the company. It is extremely important to get your foot in the door early by wowing recruiters at the application stages with your employability skills. Follow ERAC on twitter.

HSBC and Royal Mail were also on campus talking to first year students about the importance of internships alongside your studies. At HSBC, 80% of the graduate cohort were recruited from the summer internship programmes. Their master class prepared students for the whole application process from CV tips, online testing, telephone interviews to assessment centres and final interviews. PwC were giving out free tea, coffee and sweets on the crossroads outside the Law building and also held a workshop on interviews and psychometric tests. Psychometric tests are used by most large graduate recruiters and can be the falling hurdle for many applicants but with handy tips and plenty of practice they should not stop you from getting the job you want! If you are considering a summer internship, PwC have been voted the number 1 times top 100 graduate employer for a record-breaking 11 years. With over 95% of their programmes open to students from all degree disciplines, there is something for everyone! Follow PwC on twitter.

As discussed in my previous blog, summer internships are becoming more and more important in securing a job with a large company after graduation. The internship Bootcamp is being specifically run this week to help first years get their foot in the door!

Make the most of the rest of this week’s Internship Bootcamp and all other careers and employer events taking place this spring.  Check out Careers & Employability on Facebook, Twitter and posters around campus and book onto one of the workshops by top employers today!

Best wishes
