There is a new Student-led team at Cardiff Uni and they are ready to help you … meet our Wellbeing Champions …
The Counselling, Health and Wellbeing Team are proud to introduce the Wellbeing Champions, a team of student volunteers who are on a mission to help their fellow students including you.
The University has a student population which is vulnerable to experiencing stress, low mood, anxiety and poor wellbeing. Research has shown that a high percentage of students would prefer to talk to a friend or a fellow student before accessing formal support – so please make use of our new Wellbeing Champions.
How can the Wellbeing Champions help me?
The Champions understand that students can experience difficulties during their time at Uni. They are able to signpost you to resources, talk to you about Student Support services and provide basic tips on managing your health and wellbeing. They can also offer you an understanding ‘peer ear’; they will listen to you without judgement and, if appropriate, help you to take any helpful next steps.
The Champions role is to: –
o Pro-actively engage with students to communicate information on a variety of health & wellbeing topics
o Offer a ‘Peer Ear’ for students needing to talk
o Signpost students to Support Services both within the University and the local community
o Communicate information on wellbeing topics through the use of social media, blogs and online resources
o Participate in Events and Campaigns related to Health and Wellbeing
o Promote the use of effective self-help resources.
Where can I find the Wellbeing Champions?
We are very excited for you to meet the Champions; they will have a visible presence on Campus at popular student ‘hotspots’ and at specific Wellbeing promotional events.
Come and meet some of the team at their first event on Wednesday 4th November, National Stress Awareness Day, when champions will be in the Students’ Union between 12pm & 2pm. Please stop for a chat, or to pick up a Stress ball and some handy tips for managing stress!
Look out for the Champions on Campus – they will be wearing a smile and a bright blue Wellbeing Champion T-shirt.
Please don’t hesitate to approach our Champions to talk to them about what they are promoting, to ask a question or to chat about any issue troubling you. They are extremely happy to help, and if they don’t know the answer to one of your questions they will know someone who does.
